Andrew Hemmert is a sixth-generation Floridian. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in creative writing and a BA in sociology  He is currently an MFA candidate in poetry at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Canary, Apeiron Review, Cheat River Review,  Cumberland River Review, and Jersey Devil Press.
